Let me just start by saying I am the worst party planner. I get worked up weeks in advance, plan the big details but overlook the small ones and if it wasn’t for my husband I think everyone would be eating pizza at every party. I originally wanted Mateo’s party small, personable, nothing fancy, no hassle and no theme. I was going to do it blue ombre but as I was looking stuff up it just felt boring.
So we decided to make the cake at least a cute theme, something that can resinate with Teo and something he would enjoy. We decided to go with Winnie The Pooh cake, just the cake and just Winnie. After that, the idea “sweet ONE” came to mind, and it was so so perfect for sweet Teo.
The birthday boy slept through the first two hours of his party, and when he woke up he wasn’t horribly impressed. I think being 1 and having a party is a tad bit overwhelming for kids. Eventually he warmed up to the idea and had his favorite; mashed potatoes then some cake!
His cake smash session was pretty fun, he loved picking off the little bumble bees then slowly digging into the frosting. We did this the day before his actual birthday, and it happened to be the day of the solar eclipse so I was a little nervous it wouldn’t work out. I did the photos myself, it could have turned out better but I am happy with what I got. Big brother obviously wanted to be apart of all the excitement. Luckily my mom was there to hold him back the whole time!

Cake time!! This kid always prefers savory over sweet, so I wasn’t surprised that he barely ate the cake lol!

All in all, his birthday turned out pretty great. I am glad I’m able to document his first birthday and his facial expressions. Thinking back on Lukas first year, as sad as it is I don’t remember the small details that I wish I’d remember.
