always polished. Q & A

If you know me, you know my love for nail polish. It is like therapy for me. Since having Mateo, I haven’t been able to spend as much time feeding this obsession so I can go weeks without polish on but I actually don’t mind it. I’ll tell you why.

I get sick of colors. I always say they need to invent a new color. I need to be in the mood to wear a certain color. So if I’m not feeling it, I won’t paint my nails. Yes, not always having the time has a lot to do with it too but I can’t just go pick out a color and be happy with it, it defeats my therapeutic purpose (if that makes any sense). This is why I hardly ever go to get my nails done, I end up just sitting there thinking if I’m going to like the color I chose, or I end up getting sick of it after 2 days.  But mostly, I just leave unimpressed with the job.

So I always get questions about my nails, how I paint them, what my favorite polishes and brands are, etc. So here is a little Q & A with frequent questions I get.

  • How are your nails always perfect? They aren’t. If you look close, my nails are never painted from edge to edge because I hate getting color on my skin. My cuticles are rarely taken care of. What I’m trying to say is you don’t have to spend a lot of time to get a decent looking manicure. What matters is polish quality, topcoat, and practice

  • Dark vs Light? I LOVE dark polishes, but I always switch it up, and like I said, I have to be in the mood to wear certain colors.

  • How do you prevent your nails from staining, especially from reds and darks? I used to use acetone nail polish remover, its a miracle worker as far as taking off every last bit of color and not smearing it all over your fingers but I noticed that eventually it took a toll on my nails and made them brittle. Obviously I knew it wasn’t good to use at all times but it worked so good that I didn’t want to go back to regular non acetone remover lol. That’s when I discovered Zoya remove +.(Click here) It’s amazing. Works so good, smells amazing, and actually nourishes your nails. Wearing a base coat also helps prevent stains, but I rarely wear a base coat.

  • What is your favorite brand? ESSIE. I love their colors. Although the small brush is not my favorite. My second favorite is OPI. I love their thick brushes and their polish formula is great but their colors lack a little oomph in my opinion.

  • What topcoat do you use? My most requested question. Seche Vite. (Click here) im obsessed with this topcoat, although it won’t be everyones favorite and I have a love/hate relationship with it. This is why. It dries so quick, so if you are a slow(er) painter you won’t like this because you can’t take your time and be as precise with your technique. The topcoat will get gunky on you pretty quick if you take a while to paint a single nail. Reasons I love it are; it dries quick (I’m talking minutes), it gives such a super shine and that shine lasts a long time, and it gives it that thicker gel like appearance depending on how thick you apply it. Reasons I hate it; you’re basically only going to use half the bottle. The second half gets so chunky and barely spreadable. But for me, it’s worth it.

I posted mostly my lighter colors and pinks as I will definitely be posting my fall favorites soon. Stay tuned!

Hope this answered some of your questions ❤︎
